The developer of West Dallas development Sylvan Thirty is launching a new short-term entertainment venue with a droll name and a shape-shifting personality.

Called Nowhere, TX, it’ll open at 1216 W. Commerce St., on what was previously an industrial site at the intersection of Commerce and Edgefield streets. According to a release, it will open in summer 2018.

"Nowhere, TX" seems like it would spur confusing conversations between partygoers attempting to make plans.

Cue the following hypothetical conversation:

Q: "Where ya headed tonight?"
A: "Nowhere, you wanna come?"

Nowhere, TX will feature pop-up events and a biergarten-style dining concept with rotating chefs/menus. Info on the exact chefs and menus is still TBD.

Landscape architecture firm Hocker Design Group will design the landscaping for what is a three-building, 2.8-acre venue. It will include patios, gathering spaces, and an enclosed children’s play area. A rendering depicts a massive screen on the side of a building onto which a soccer game is projected.

Happening individuals who like to see things first can get a sneak peek on June 2 from 7-11 pm, when Nowhere, TX will host a pop-up preview party. There’ll be a concert by Cure for Paranoia; art by DTOX Art; and food from 18th & Vine BBQ, while it lasts.

In lieu of admission, donations of any size will be accepted to raise funds for Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. Tickets are required and can be purchased at nowheretx.com.

The lifespan of the space will be temporary, says Brent Jackson, president of Oaxaca Interests, Sylvan Thirty’s developer.

"Our hope is to create a unique space that showcases a creative new use for the spaces along this industrial corridor," Jackson says in a release. "We plan to host and produce events at Nowhere, TX for a few years."

Unless someone decides to rent it right away, maybe.
